Embrace your personality in your ART
I am starting to learn to embrace my personality in my work. I created a cut of outtakes for facebook of some recordings I did for the weekend announcements. My friend who is in the video shared with me that a woman from North Carolina, who he never met message him on facebook that the video she just randomly found and watched made her day. She had been going through a horrible divorce and went on facebook to blank out. After coming across the video her day was brighten. She even checked out my friends music video and the song touched her heart as well. Just what she needed in a such a dark time in her life. I was grateful she shared her story with my friend. I am learning to not be afraid of being funny, creative, weird, dramatic, everything that I am in my work. Here are the outtakes. Hope it makes you laugh as well.
Video Editing at The Rock Church
For the past two years I have been working at The Rock Church and World Outreach Center in San Bernardino. I heard about The Rock when I was in Australia. When I came back to California I wasn’t really sure what to do with myself. I was in search for work and came across the church’s need for a graphic designer. I was hired and it was then I started this growing process. The following year, I was moved in to the Video department helping to edit and create videos. Soon I was placed to supervise an editor playing the role of a Producer and still be an editor. I have more responsibilities to produce, create, write, shoot, plan and still edit videos.
Here is a project I came up with for The Rock. It was called “We Love Our House”. I had to fall in love with this place in order to connect with the people. It’s amazing to be part of a church that outreaches and impacts the community. This was played during the month of October 2009 each week after the weekly announcements.
Here is an example of what a weekly announcement would look like:
Money can’t buy creative passion
I am probably the only video editor who doesnt own a camera, a mac computer, and a video camera. How do I get work done? Well, I make use of the resources around me. I bought a film camera at the Good will and use my church’s video camera sometimes. Everywhere I’ve worked, Ive always had a mac with all my editing programs.
I know I need to get my own equipment so I can finally experiment and reach my creative potential.
This year I plan on saving up for some good equipment, that and save to move to Paris. So though I may not have the best equipment I do have creative passion. And you can not buy creative passion.
I love what the bible teaches about how God looks at the heart and not the outer appearances. It reminds me that where I go in life it will be because of the passion that is in my heart not because I can create the best video in the world.
And that helps me create the next video with dv footage. Or take photos for fun with my grainy film camera.
Families are soooo beautiful
This Christmas I took photos of the Jimenez family downtown. I had so much fun watching them interact with each other. I suggested they bring Mr.Jimenez’s classic convertible as a prop. It turned out adding great character to the photos and displaying the personality of the family. Here are the photos form that nice winter day at the Mission Inn in Riverside, California.
Artist and Man
Make thy life better than thy work. Too oft Our artists spend their skill in rounding soft, Fair curves upon their statues, while the rough And ragged edges of the unhewn stuff in their own natures startle and offend The eye of the critic and the heart of friend. If in thy too brief day thou must neglect Thy labour or thy life, let men detect Flaws in thy work! while their most searching gaze Call fall on nothing which they may not praise In thy well-chiselled character. The Man Should not be shadowed by the Artisan! Poem by Ella W. Wilcox
Australian & New Zealand travels
A dream of mine for years was to go to bible college in Texas. After things didn’t work out because of finances I went to design school and studied video editing and graphic design. Even in the mist of my new found passion as an artist, I still never forgot my desire to go to bible college.
After much exposure to some of Hillsong United DVD’s that documented a youth movement in Sydney, Australia, I began to do research. Turns out it was not only an amazing church but a bible college that offered a course in Tv and Media. It was the perfect place for me.
Here is the video I edited together about how God took me, a girl who was raised in San Bernardino to a beautiful place called Australia to show my local church the journey.
There I met some amazing people and had some great opportunities. I volunteers for their large conferences as a camera person and assistant. The moment they found out I had some background in video editing and design I was asked to be apart of the youth video team. There I became a faithful volunteer and later was asked to do some paid jobs for albums and weekly church services. This is my demo reel of the work I did. Things were making sense of why God had me wait things out and go to school first. My passion + my faith and love for Him was going to come together for my = destiny.
Almost 3 years later since I called New South Whales home, my life has changed and I have grown dramatically as a person. I recently went back for a visit. Here is a video I edit together of some of the fun moments I had with my Australian and New Zealand Friends.
Using humor for Bible College Video
I usually stay away from making humorous videos when it comes to my job but I was given permission so I gathered friends together and had some fun.
“We can do it” promo for Women’s Rock
The greatest thing I love about my job is that I have full creative power. I am able to come up with the concept, shoot it, edit it, create the graphics and everything else that goes in to making a promo. I am a crew of one. It will be exciting to one day work with someone else to see what creative project we come up with together.
Creativity with Family
Trips to the Zoo, hanging around the house, or out to dinner with friends. I am never able to turn off being creative. Its in my inner most being
Encounterfest Video
For years I dreamt of attending Hillsong College in Australia. I wanted to devote myself to learning leadership skills, biblical principles, and to give my talent to encourage the church. While I was there I was able to create projects that thousands around the world have seen. I enjoy work that has a great purpose and that influences people to go after their dreams, potential and get connected to God.
The Encoutnerfest youth conference was the first time I not only edit projects for a conference, but looked over a team of editors as a producer.
